Mark as Booked
Background

In 2024, I redesigned the 'Mark as Booked' feature for VenueScanner with the goal of increasing host utilisation. The project focused on making the feature more visible and user-friendly, encouraging more hosts to mark their spaces as booked.

The constraint

No user research. A commercial decision had been made to improve this feature; I was asked to ideate, design, and ship the product for testing in a live environment.

Business goals
  • Increase the use of the 'Mark as Booked' feature
  • Improve overall booking efficiency
  • Enhance user satisfaction to drive repeat use
The approach

01Usability review

Evaluating the platform surfaced several key issues: the booking process included redundant steps (making step two editable removed the need for step one entirely); tooltips sat too close to CTAs, causing confusion; and the 'Mark as Booked' action lacked prominence; it needed to become the primary action after sending a quote, with immediate feedback to keep users engaged.

  • Streamlined steps: removed redundancy in the booking flow
  • Separated tooltips from CTAs, positioning actions closer to event details
  • Promoted 'Mark as Booked' to the primary post-quote action with immediate feedback
  • Aligned palette and tone of voice with the brand's primary colours and clear, specific instructions

02User flows

Mapped the existing experience, then redesigned the flow around the idea that best fit business and user goals.

03Design

A clean, intuitive UI aligned with VenueScanner's brand: key actions emphasised with primary brand colours, and the user flow streamlined to reduce clicks. The final UI features a prominent 'Mark as Booked' button, an efficient booking process, and 'wow' moments to delight users and promote repeat behaviour and stickiness.
